When Tiffany and Tony got in touch with me to attend their destination wedding in Hawaii + Ironman event Tony was taking part in, I was really stoked! I haven’t been to Hawaii before, but I knew it would exciting to photograph their love commitment and the vibe of the place! Being super organised and fun loving creatures, they have actually organised two weddings: one for flying friends in Hawaii and one for close family and non-flying guests in Brisbane.
We landed in Kona where we spend a week on a Big Island of Hawaii known for Manta Ray diving experience, fields of lava and active volcanoes. I arrived a couple of days early to explore the island via rented car and scope out some spots for the bridal photos.
Saturday was the couple’s first big week event – the legendary Kona Ironman event! (See my event photos here). Coincidentally, the couple met at a similar event in Australia so it naturally was a big celebration for them! There also was the Legendary Kona Undies Run but let’s not publish those photos here! After walking close to 17km on foot on the day just enjoying being a spectator, I had an idea what Kona Ironman was all about!
Tony recovered just in time as three days later the wedding took place in Royal Kona Resort, a beautiful luxury beachfront hotel overlooking the ocean.
As with most destination weddings, the ceremony was a relaxed and more casual affair, followed by drinks and an awesome traditional Hawaiian Luau with hundreds of guests attending the Voyagers of the Pacific performance. Wedding finished with a pool party after a hot Hawaiian 35C degree day.
